In a nutshell

Without any reservation, the Orpheum Foundation supports young talents (between the age of 18 and 26 years) with an education in classical music from all over the world. Outstanding musicality, the basics of an extraordinary artistic personality, a relevant repertoire as well as experience in working with orchestras and in solo performance are required. Orpheum is not a competition!!

Profile of requirements

In order to profit from the advancement programme of the Orpheum Foundation, Orpheum adresses musicians from all over the world wishing to pursue a solo career, without any reservation regarding language, nationality or origin. Outstanding musicality and the roots of an extraordinary artistic personality, however, should be given.

  • Age: 18 – 26 years (Exceptions are granted in special cases and circumstances and in accordance with the Artistic Director)
  • Education: Education in classical music as well as experience in working with orchestras and in solo performance (concert experience)
  • References: Orpheum candidates are often recommended by professors of their academy or by mentors (conductors). This is, however, not a prerequisite.
  • Repertoire: concertos and solo works of the classical and romantic repertoire as well as of the modern classical period (18th, 19th and 20th century)

In case of an Orpheum Public Award, the repertoire shall be specifically determined.

Application documents

Applicants are required to send in a file containing the following documents:

  • Address and contact details (telephone, mobile, e-mail)
  • Curriculum with detailed musical education and activities, date of birth
  • Photo
  • Repertoire list
  • List of actual performances
  • Relevant concert reviews
  • CD/DVD recording with several concert extracts (not older than 2 years)
  • name of agency if applicable

Applications can be submitted in German, French or English.

Application deadline: 30 June of the preceding year.

Selection procedure

Selection for the advancement programme is as follows:
highly respected musicians and conductors who are acting as mentors of a young artist, recommend extraordinarily talented musicians to the Orpheum Foundation for its advancement programme. The mentors consider these young artists to be mature and eligible for a solo career, however they have not yet gained greater public recognition. Often mentors are conducting the concerts where the young artists are performing. Candidates who are applying directly to the Foundation will be selected by the Foundation. In accordance with the mentors/conductors they will be admitted to the advancement programme.
